Opinel Tradition
The ideal companion for the adventurer
In 1890, in a small Savoy village in the Maurienne, Joseph Opinel invented the pocket knife that bears his name today. The company is now run by his descendants. For more than 130 years, branded products of the highest quality have been produced in Chambéry in the heart of the Alps and have become established worldwide.
Good to know:
The traditional blade from Opinel is called the Yatagan. The shape is inspired by a Turkish sabre with a raised tip. The blade is sharpened to an exclusive, curved profile and guarantees robustness and easy sharpening.
Beech is the most commonly used wood for the manufacture of Opinel knife handles. The beech wood comes from France, is hard, resistant and easy to work with. It has a homogeneous appearance and the light color varies from yellowish to pinkish. You can recognize the wood by the many dark, small strokes. The handle has been varnished to provide better protection against moisture and dirt.
The Virobloc safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955. It is present on all folding knives from model N°06 onwards. The Virobloc is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it is now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transportation).
Option with corkscrew !
A professional corkscrew with 5 turns of hardened stainless steel is integrated in the handle. The cork can be easily removed without damaging it.
With a 10 cm blade that is perfect for cutting cheese, fruit and cold meats, the corkscrew knife isthe perfect French-style picnic knife .
